I chose the Polyglots team, specifically the es-CR (Costa Rican Spanish) locale, because it allows me to contribute to the WordPress community through a concrete task I can do while continuing to learn: translating strings on the WordPress translation platform. I am interested in making WordPress and WooCommerce available in clear, natural Spanish for Costa Rican users, and I believe Polyglots is an accessible space to start contributing without needing to be an expert in programming or in WordPress’s internal workings.

My project consists of translating strings from English into Costa Rican Spanish in projects such as WooCommerce and some related plugins. This involves applying the locale glossary, maintaining consistency with existing translation. It also involves reviewing that each translation makes sense within the context of the interface and sounds natural to the end user.

I chose this project because it relates to skills I already have, such as English comprehension, Spanish writing, and attention to detail. Although I am just starting with WordPress, I can contribute through translation while learning the platform’s terminology and context. My personal and academic interests are also related to software localization and collaborative work in open-source communities.

During the program, I hope to learn to use the translation tool more fluently, better understand how a locale glossary is applied, and develop judgment for translating strings with placeholders, HTML, and technical context. I also want to learn how the Polyglots team is organized and how to interact with other contributors and reviewers.

By the end, I would like to have completed a significant number of valid translations for es-CR, received contribution credits, and gained the confidence and judgment needed to continue translating on my own. In short, I hope my contribution helps make WordPress more accessible to Costa Ricans and that my participation in WPCredits allows me to grow as a contributor within the community.

Welcome to my corner of the internet, where I document my journey as a WordPress student at Universidad Fidélitas. Here, I’ll share what I learn, the projects I work on, and my experiences as I explore WordPress and the open-source community. Let’s learn, create, and contribute together!
